Web hosting – key elements

November 21, 2011

The core of the web hosting services is comprised of two key elements: the Domain Name Registration (DNR) and the hosting server. These two – domain and hosting – are the two sides of the “coin” and they have to coexist for a website to operate smoothly. Naturally, there are certain exceptions to this rule, but generally speaking a web site cannot exist without a DNR and a DNR is pretty much useless without web hosting plan attached to it.
domain and hosting are only key elements. Other parameters have to be taken in to consideration as well, when one is choosing the most suitable web hosting provider. Still, allow us to go in further detail about those two cornerstones of the successful web presence.
Domain Name is the address where the results of the hosting are displayed. The domain designates the exact location where the files composing any given web site are stored. The addresses have to be unique, otherwise user and browser will be confused and would encounter great difficulties finding the desired web page. Domain Names can be provided by the authorized Registrars – which are not that many – or can be bought through a retailer.
The hosting, on the other hand, is space on a server owned by the web hosting provider or, in some cases, an entire server. This is where the web site is actually stored – its texts, videos, pictures, databases, etc. Without space for hosting the Domain Name would display nothing or just a Pay Per Click page with no meaningful content.
